The 10 Best Traffic Cops At Hula Hooping

Traffic cops spend their days in intersections, directing cars and keeping order. Some of them picked up hula hooping as a way to stay fit during breaks or to entertain themselves during slow shifts. A few got really good at it. Here are ten officers who've become known for their skills with a hoop.

1. Officer Maria "The Spinner" Rodriguez (Miami PD) - Rodriguez can keep three hoops going while she directs beach traffic. She once went 47 minutes straight during spring break without dropping her whistle.

2. Sergeant Danny Chen (Portland Traffic Division) - Chen uses the hoops as part of his actual directing technique. The circular motion seems to mesmerize drivers. Accidents at his intersection dropped 23% after he started doing this.

3. Commander Patricia "Twirl Queen" O'Brien (Chicago) - O'Brien is 58 and won the Illinois State Fair hoop competition three years running. She still manages the Loop's morning chaos.

4. Officer James Kowalski (Detroit Metro) - Kowalski does this thing he calls the "cone weave" where he hoops around traffic cones on his lunch break. His YouTube channel has 200k subscribers.

5. Deputy Chief Sarah Nakamura (Seattle) - Nakamura brought hooping to the department wellness program. She uses weighted hoops and can recite the vehicle code while doing it.

6. Officer Marcus "Rhythm" Thompson (New Orleans) - Thompson combines his hooping with traffic whistle beats. Locals call it "the best intersection show in the French Quarter."

7. Constable Ravi Patel (Toronto Traffic Services) - Patel holds the department record at 4 hours and 12 minutes, set during a Maple Leafs victory parade.

8. Officer Lisa Bergström (Stockholm) - Bergström hoops in sub-zero temperatures with heated hoops she designed herself. She proves Scandinavian traffic cops are the hardiest.

9. Sergeant Mike O'Donnell (Boston) - O'Donnell does a "rotary hoop" where he spins in circles while hooping. It mimics the confusing traffic patterns he manages every day.

10. Officer Grace Wu (San Francisco) - Wu conquered the city's hills while hooping. Her best was 15 minutes on Lombard Street's switchbacks without the hoop hitting the ground.
